Poetry – Gratitude

Gratitude

The scent of ozone fills my lungs

The sounds of sea birds ring in my ear

The sea pounds the beach in exhilaration

I am alive

The wind blows down from the north, chilly but invigorating

The neighbourhood cat sleepily catches the early morning sun

The birds hold noisy meetings on the feeder

I smell the sun baked garden

I am happy

I hear the children, laughing and giggling as they come out of school

I wave and chat to the “crossing” lady

People exchange smiles and greetings

It’s my community and I have much to be grateful for.
